9: Take steady, deep breaths

Deep breathing is a great technique to use during moments of high anxiety as it has an immediate calming effect.

Take a long, steady breath in through your nose, filling your lungs from the bottom to the top.

Hold your breath for a few seconds - perhaps count to three or four.

Exhale slowly through pursed lips and you will feel the muscles in your face, jaw, shoulders, and stomach relax. You can repeat this process a few times if you want to. If you're really busy you can always prioritise a couple of minutes to do this when you're totally alone and things are relatively quiet - perhaps in the loo!
